NOISE is a national charity which helps young people with talent, gain opportunities in the Creative Industries, so it’s free to take part!

• SELECTION: The NOISE Curators, will select the best work to showcase on the NOISE website and throughout the media.

NOISEfestival.com accepts any creative work; including music, film, fashion, design, architecture, advertising, written word, graphic design, blogs, virals, 3D, gaming, new-media, product, fine art and illustration.
NOISE Curators, a panel of acclaimed industry pros, including: Badly Drawn Boy for music; Richard Billingham for Photography; Noki for Fashion; Zaha Hadid for Architecture; Tom Dixon (Habitat) for Product Design; Norman Rosenthal (of the Royal Academy of Art) for Fine Art and James Sommerville (of Attik design) for Graphics, New Media and Advertising, will select the best work to showcase on the NOISE website and throughout the media.
During the festival in October 2008 top NOISE talent will hijack the nation's press via our media partners, including BBC, MTV and MSN and creative magazines will provide features, profiles and programmes to help kick-start your creative careers, and secure a credible, far reaching platform to promote your work.

The Drum Arts Centre is keen to hear from any artists / companies with products that may be suitable and are available for our spring season. The Drum is the longest running Black Arts centre in the UK, please note the programme remit is to programme work that is created by African, Asian and Caribbean artists
All submissions/proposals need to be received by Friday 6th September to be considered. Proposals must include the following supporting information:
· Name, contact details of company or artist(s)
· Biographic details of artist(s) and company
· Synopsis of the piece / gig and details of how it links to the programme
· Running Time
· High quality colour and, if available, black + white images (min 300 dpi at 10cm square, ideally a file size of 1MB or over. )
· Press clippings of previous shows/events (if available)
· Tour Schedule (if applicable)
· Any product, CDs, books, tapes, web links etc
· Any special information to be included

Arts Planet
At this year’s Edinburgh Festivals, Visiting Arts and British Council’s professional networking site, www.arts-planet.net, will be officially launched.
The site will allow arts professionals from across the globe to meet and collaborate with ‘alumni’ of joint Visiting Arts/British Council projects. Arts Planet will be an invaluable resource for those seeking to develop projects, identify partners and expand networks internationally.
The site will give access to profiles of members from countries including China, Iran, Russia, India and the UK. Arts-Planet allows users to send alumni messages, view their posted items and see what projects they’re currently working on.

As part of the EMN's Cultural Leadership Programme, 9 mela organisers visited India at the start of 2008. With support of the Arts Council and Visiting Arts organisers from Belfast, Bradford, Croydon, Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham, Rochdale and Swindon were in Mumbai, Delhi, Agra and Surajkund in a twelve day visit. A DVD and web and print publications are planned that will allow all melas to benefit from what is learned from the India visit. More on this soon.

Re-inventing Mela

New Executive
Two new faces join the Executive of the European Mela Network following the November nomination process. These are Liz Lavender and Kavita Gupta. Standing down from the Executive are Aud Digernes, Sneita Kaur and Khalid Salimi.
Challenge from south Asia
'What do we see? We see so many melas that are like shopping malls where the shopkeeper has the best place. Melas should not be temporary malls but this is waht we are doing. We should ask: how are we different' - a thought provovoking excerpt from Bansi Kaul's contribution to the Melas Cultural Leadership Programme and now published as part of the EMN's latest brochire Re-inventing Mela, launched in November 2007 at Manchester.
Bollywood in the Park
With the awards known as the Bollywood Oscars (IFA Award Ceremony) being hosted in Yorkshire from 6 – 9 June and the awards being broadcast to a global audience of more than 400 million, Leeds Mela are rebranding this year and rescheduling to the weekend of 9 and 10 June. Bollywood in the Park is the 2007 Leeds Mela.
European Mela Network has been successful in achieving funding under the Cultural Leadership Programme. EMN’s application will allow 6 leaders from within the Black and Ethnic Minority communities that are active in the Mela Network to undergo career development.
British Asian Week (BAW).
Taking place from 13 – 19 November 2006, BAW is designed to celebrate the huge contribution made to the UK by the British Asian community.
Silicon Valley's Biggest Diwali Mela
Around 17,000 attendees thronged to Silicon Valley's Biggest Diwali Mela in Sunnyvale, California. which marked Diwali 2006 at the Sunnyvale Hindu Temple and Community Center Oct. 20-22.
Luton Mela Wins Award
Luton Mela won the community spirit award at the second annual East of England Celebrate Awards on Thursday.

This year's annual BAFA Conference is the most ambitious yet. It is organised in partnership with the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre and takes place at the inspirational Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.
2006 sees the British Arts Festivals Association Annual Conference in another Landmark Building, after the success of the 2005 Conference held at The Sage, Gateshead. This time around the venue is the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, keystone of the regeneration of the Cardiff Bay Area.
