Pearson Park, Pearson Avenue, Hull
A Mela is traditionally an Indian Summer Fair, but in this instance we are organising a festival celebrating the cultural diversity of the area with a view to promoting community cohesion..
The festival aims to entertain and celebrate with people from communities across the city. Ultimately we aim to see a sharing of culture and community that will focus on a positive celebration of difference and similarity.
Pearson Park is at the centre of the local community and is an ideal venue for such celebrations. The Mela will also benefit individuals and communities across Hull and attracts thousands of people giving a boost to community groups with stalls at the event.
The event will be family focused with opportunities for people of all ages to experience music, food, clothes, dancing, art, workshops and play opportunities from many cultures. People will be performing traditional arts, dance and music on stage. Food from various cultures will be sold by local providers. The focus of the event is an annual community conference which gives community and voluntary groups an opportunity to promote their work to a large audience.
