The first Birmingham Eid Mela was held in the year 2000. The event's main aim was to hold a celebration to mark the end of Ramadan (the Islamic month of Fasting). However, as the weather in September was not seen as typical festival weather, the event was moved to the month of June the following year and also to Birmingham's prestigious Cannon Hill Park.
Although the event still holds the title of ‘Eid’ Mela the commitment of the committee and its supporters is to make this an all inclusive open and diverse event. The success of this is evident itself as in 2006 we mark the 6th anniversary of the event in the most modern and upcoming event site in Birmingham, Millennium Point.
